Around midnight, the “crazy hour” hits: costumes, confetti, and music at full volume. You’ll know it when it happens.
The kiss hello.
Argentines greet each other with a kiss on the cheek, including people they’ve just met. Go with it.
Mate.
A shared herbal tea passed around the group. When it’s handed to you, drink, then pass it back. Only say “gracias” when you’ve had enough.
Sobremesa.
The long, lazy conversation after a meal. Nobody rushes to leave the table, and you shouldn’t either.
Asado.
Argentine barbecue, and a serious tradition. Pace yourself: the meat keeps coming.
